Public Record Office Victoria has a comprehensive environmental management system to reduce its impact on the environment, and we’re always working to further reduce our waste, energy consumption and the broader environmental impact of our business.
Supporting the ‘effective management and use’ of records naturally includes environmental sustainability. We promote electronic recordkeeping across government, and are working towards a legislative and regulatory environment that reduces reliance on paper-based records.
In our reading rooms we supply digital cameras for our users to copy records instead of photocopying, and we’re working hard to digitise our collection and make it available online – reducing both our clients’ need to print and travel to use our services.
Waste avoidance and environmental sustainability are key components of our purchasing decisions for capital items and consumables, and all new capital works programs incorporate environmental sustainability principles. We have recycling programs for organic waste, paper, glass, aluminium, CDs, computers and mobile phones, and our shredded office paper is reused at the Lost Dogs Home.
Our environmental management system grew out of the Victorian Government’s Our Environment Our Future sustainability action statement. We’re a member of the CitySwitch Green Office program.
We review our sustainability goals and targets annually, and welcome your feedback.
