In February 2002, a VERS Steering Committee was established to oversee strategic direction and review progress of the VERS program of work. Membership invitations were extended to the eleven inner-budget departments to form a whole of Victorian Government perspective. The objectives of the VERS Steering Committee are to:

• Ensure the overall and ongoing direction of the VERS program is maintained across government
• Provide strategic direction for the adoption of VERS within a departmental business context
• Provide leadership and resource support for key VERS program initiatives and projects
• Provide strategic business intelligence to guide and support the VERS program

The VERS Steering Committee meets quarterly and may also choose to meet at other times as required.
