Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) runs an assessment program to test product compliance against the Standard for the Management of Electronic Records (PROS 99/007 version 2). Statements of compliance can be issued to vendors for products such as document/record management software and digital storage media. Compliant products are listed here.
A statement of VERS-compliance can assist vendors of IT products to market products to Victorian government agencies. Information on the status of products that have undergone testing can also assist agencies in the selection of products.
The assessment process tests products against the technical specifications of the Standard. Certification can be sought for products against any or all of the five specifications in the Standard. To be considered fully VERS Compliant, a product must be certified against all five specifications.
The VERS Standard prescribes a mandatory approach to the long-term preservation of digital records. Victorian government public sector agencies are moving towards managing their digital records in VERS-compliant systems. This includes central government departments, local government, public hospitals, public schools and government-owned business enterprises.
PROV also offers advice on how to go about achieving VERS Compliance for specific products. Please contact the Assessment team at assessment@prov.vic.gov.au for more information.
