This exhibition draws upon commonly used Public Record Office Victoria records, and serves as an example of family and local history research.
Lucy Bell’s life was short and unremarkable. A farmer’s wife, and mother to several children, Lucy did not lead a public life. Yet we can re-tell Lucy’s story because she, like other ordinary people, used and relied on the services of government. Her arrival in the colony, marriage, the birth of her children, struggle to obtain possession of her late husband’s estate and her own untimely death are all recorded in full.
