Reading Room Conditions

In order to preserve our valuable records and provide a comfortable environment for research, certain items can be brought into the Reading Room:

  • pencils
  • loose paper
  • notebooks that are A4 or smaller
  • wallets and purses
  • laptop computers (excluding the carry bag)
  • digital cameras
  • mobile phones switched to silent

and certain items are prohibited as they may permanently damage records:

  • pens
  • food and drink
  • bags and handbags
  • containers/boxes
  • clipboards
  • folders
  • plastic sleeves

Please do not use your mobile phone for phone calls in the Reading Room.

Lockers are provided free of charge for use on your visit.

Free WiFi is available. VAC does not provide information technology assistance or advice to users of the VAC Wireless Hotspots.

      there is nothing that you need to bring or sign before you come to Public Record Office Victoria to undertake research. If you wish to order original records to view however you will need to log on as a registered user following this guide: http://wiki.prov.vic.gov.au/images/8/8b/Register_Public_User.pdf
