Author: Public Record Office Victoria

In response to the claims made by The Age today:

Public Record Office Victoria runs volunteer programs and partnerships, including with the Mormons, for the sole purpose of digitising and indexing public records making them accessible to researchers, historians and genealogists online. We do not run any religious activities or baptisms at PROV and our digitisation lab is not "underground" or in any basement. We have more than 180 volunteers from all walks of life - from uni students to retirees who love history. We are grateful to all the volunteers, as well as the Mormons, for their hard work in bringing Victoria's historic documents to light.

Material in the Public Record Office Victoria archival collection contains words and descriptions that reflect attitudes and government policies at different times which may be insensitive and upsetting

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples should be aware the collection and website may contain images, voices and names of deceased persons.
