What do I need to know?

All you need to know is the name of a company, government body person or other party to a court case.

The search below covers a variety of court case records held at PROV - equity cases, civil cases, insolvency, company and miscellaneous cases and criminal prosecutions.

The search covers tens of thousands of cases and may produce useful results; however, if you aren't successful, try using the court cases topic guide to establish type of case you're searching for, and the specific process or search you can use to find records.

How do I search?

Type the name of a company, government body person or other party to the case.

About these records

It's important to note that the quantity of data for each of these collection areas varies vastly, from the full names of the companies and people who are parties to the case, to partial names, to file numbers, or date listings only. The data may also cover only a proportion of the cases of each type. We're constantly working to improve the quality and quantity of data, to make searches like this more likely to be successful.

What are in these records?

The content of the records vary depending on the type of case, and when the case was heard.

This page includes a general search across court cases from the 1840s to the 1980s.

You can find more details about specific types of cases via the court cases topic page. These pages will include more details like if they are digitised, if the records are closed under Section 9 of the Public Records Act, and how to seek access.
