Digitisation program

We are working with private sector and community organisations to digitise the archive of the State Government of Victoria, making it accessible to all researchers wherever they may be in the world.

Most of our projects rely on the work of volunteers.  You can see some of the projects we have underway on the volunteer projects page.  Completed projects are available to public researchers through our catalogue and research pages.

Out of the millions of records we hold, we focus on digitising records that meet the following criteria:

  • Demand: Are the original records heavily used? Will digitisation increase use of the records?
  • Opportunity: Is there opportunity to work with business or community groups to digitise the records?
  • Risk: Are the original records at risk? Will digitising help manage this risk?
  • Value: Do the records have particular value or significance?

Further information can be found in our digitisation policy.

We welcome suggestions for digitisation from researchers and potential partners.  Feel free to contact us if you are interested in a digitising project.
