This is the story of Melbourne’s relationship with its water supplies, waterways, and drainage and sewerage systems, and the way in which this has been reflected in Victoria’s economy, environment and culture over the course of its 150-year history.
Water Stories examines a number of the major water and landscaping projects in Victoria relating to infrastructure, parks and gardens, and the River Yarra with a view to revealing the treasure-trove of original records held by the state archives. The online exhibition also features education resources.
The online exhibition is part of PROV’s efforts to draw the public’s attention to current environmental concerns and government policies that are addressing them. A related initiative is the PROV Rainwater Harvesting Project, an example of how Australian, state and local governments are now driving a collaborative response to climate change by funding collection of rainwater run-off from building rooftops.
