Officially known as: Dandenong Hospital
Dandenong Hospital (VA 1246), originally known as Dandenong and District Hospital, was incorporated on 8th October 1940 (Victoria Government Gazette, No. 374, p. 3779, October 16, 1940), under the Hospital and Charities Act 1928.

Dandenong and District Hospital opened its doors to patients in April 1942. There were initially 34 beds available to the public. In 1956 a further eleven beds were added. Extensions added in 1959 provided 48 more beds, bringing capacity to 93 beds. By 1967, Dandenong and District Hospital had grown to 183 beds. Bed capacity had increased further to 334 by 1977. In 1976 the Day Hospital was built to provide a rehabilitation facility in Dandenong.

The Governor-in-Council formally assented to the change of the hospital name from Dandenong and District Hospital, to Dandenong Hospital on 19th December 1991. The name change was brought about as a result of the formal integration of the Hospital and the facility that had previously been known as Dandenong Psychiatric Services Corporation.

In, January 1992, integration of the adjacent Dandenong Psychiatric Centre occurred. In 1993 Westernport Drug and Alcohol Service and the AIDS Prevention and Support Unit were also integrated into Dandenong Hospital. Also in 1996, two new operating theatres were added and some existing operating theatres were refurbished.

In August 1995 Dandenong amalgamated with other organisations, including the Monash Medical Centre (VA 2823), to form the Southern Health Care Network (VA 5264), which later became Southern Health on 31st December 2001 (Victoria Government Gazette, No. G 29, 27 July 1995, pp. 1980-1981). That agency was renamed Monash Health on 20 May 2013.
