The authors are members of the collaborative Melbourne History Workshop in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne. Professor Andrew J May is an urban social historian whose publications include Melbourne street life (1998), Espresso! Melbourne coffee stories (2001) and The encyclopedia of Melbourne (2005) as director and lead editor. Helen Morgan is an information architect with multidisciplinary expertise in art history, professional writing, archival science and cultural informatics. Nicole Davis is completing a PhD thesis on the history of arcades in Australian cities and towns. Dr Sue Silberberg is a historian, curator and heritage consultant whose book A networked community: Jewish Melbourne in the nineteenth century was published in 2020 by Melbourne University Publishing. Dr Roland Wettenhall has recently completed a history of friendly societies in Victoria.
