Function / Content
The Plan Inspection Section(s) of the Town and Country Planning Board VA 516, Department of Planning VA 599 and the Department of Planning and Environment VA 1024 maintained the Planning Scheme Record Cards from 1946 to 1988.Statutory dates relevant to the statutory process were recorded for all Victorian Planning Schemes, Interim Development Orders, Revocations and Amendments during this period.
Coloured cards were used to categorise Victorian Planning Controls:
- Blue :Metropolitan Principal Schemes
- Green :Metropolitan Principal Schemes Amendments
- Pink :Principal Schemes outside of Board of Works approved area
- Salmon : Amendments to Principal Schemes outside of Board of Works approved area.
- White :MMBW amendments and Local Development Schemes
- Yellow :Planning Schemes prepared by the Town and Country Planning Board and Regional Authorities.
How to use the records
The Planning Scheme Record Cards were used as a guide/reference in researching the statutory records of Planning Schemes, Interim Development Orders and Amendments prior to the gazettal of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 (gazetted 16 February 1988).Planning Scheme Record Cards were arranged by the title of a Planning Scheme or Interim Development Order.

Note:
The consignment unit description includes the date of RESOLUTION following the title of a Planning Scheme. The resolution date denotes the date on which a responsible authority determined the date of commencement of the preparation of a Planning Scheme.
References were made to the Town and Country Planning Act 1961 (and earlier legislation) and the Town and Country Planning Regulations (and earlier statutory rules).
