Consult the list of records to locate the volume containing minutes from the period in which you are interested.

Recordkeeping system

P1 Consignment:
Early minutes were contained in six large volumes and consist of typed and signed original copies. Each of the volumes has an alphabetical subject index with page reference numbers.

The following note explaining the indexing system appears at the front of each volume:

Index - explanation

Internal auditor's special investigations recorded on separate page next to 'I's and also indexed alphabetically.

Personal matters, hours of work, salaries, etc recorded under 'Industrial Matters'.

Natural gas items recorded on separate page next to 'N'.

Routine reports such as Budget and Activity reports not indexed unless a specific item is raised and then it is recorded alphabetically.

The volumes have single digit numbers printed on the spine but they weren't used in consistent numerical order. At a later date another numbering sequence was applied, possibly as a means of locating the volumes in chronological sequence on shelves. The six volumes in this consignment only two retain evidence of this secondary numbering system. Minutes from 1964 are numbered as volume '20' and minutes from 1972 are numbered volume '22'.

From 09.02.79 to 10.03.89 the minutes are in a solid covered proprietary type folder that has been bound. The secondary numbering system applied to the earlier volumes was continued and runs from Volume 24 through to Volume 28.

P2 Consignment:
The earliest minutes are in two blue vinyl folders and the rest are in a light green cardboard cover. From 18.05.51 to 13.10.61 each page has been initialled by the Chairman and the final page of a minute has been signed. From the meeting of 27.10.61 they are unsigned.
