Function / Content

The purpose of these files was to record psychiatric services for Turana Youth Training Centre (VA 971) and, later, Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre (VA 5086) clients. Services were provided, and assessments conducted, by the Turana Psychiatric Clinic, the Juvenile Justice Health Service, the Office of Psychiatric Services and the Clinical and Forensic Health Unit.

These files document psychiatric assessment and treatment provided to trainees. They contain assessments, family and social histories, and recommendations in relation to treatment. Some files contain little information while others are comprehensive. Most files cover some of the period 1990-1995, except for one file which records information for the period 1968-1970; please see series listing.
