Function / Content
This series comprises reports and publications of reviews of the North Western Mental Health (NWMH) Program.
NWMH was established in August 1996, as the 'North Western Health Network Mental Health Program' by the Western Health Care Network (VA 5262).
The NWMH Program evolved as an outcome of the redevelopment of Health Care Networks in the mid-1990s and the closures of standalone psychiatric hospitals including Footscray Psychiatric Hospital in 1997 and Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital (VA 2845). The aim of the Program was to bring together the major mental health services of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (VA 1048), Western [Footscray] Hospital (VA 1260) and North West Hospital (VA 5265).
The records in this series include: reviews and research on programs and services for aged persons, adult community services, and youth health. Issues addressed include: clinical aggression management, carers of non-English speaking patients, and neuropsychiatry.
Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Archives.
