Lady Superintendent's Reports, Caulfield Convalescence Hospital
Agencies
Date Range
Function / Content
This series comprises reports written by the Lady Superintendent of the Caulfield Convalescence Hospital.
The Caulfield Convalescence Hospital, previously a military and repatriation hospital, came under the control of the Melbourne Hospital in 1925 and was used for patient recuperation. This arrangement remained until 1948, when management of the Caulfield Hospital was assumed by the Alfred Hospital.
The Lady Superintendent was the senior nurse of the hospital and was required to report on a range of issues affecting the nursing staff including training, leave, salaries, and working conditions as well as report when nurses enlisted in the armed forces during World War Two. These reports appear to have written on an irregular basis.
