The fellowship and scholarship grants in this series include: The Victor Hurley Medical Research Fund, The D.W Keir Fellowship, The J.L Frew Memorial Scholarship, The H & L Hecht Medical Research Fellowship, and The Cleveland Fellowship.
The D.W Keir Fellowship was established in 1958 to provide grants in aid of medical research. All staff are eligible for this Fellowship.
The J.L Frew Memorial Scholarship was established in 1985 and provided for any staff member to go on a study tour or short course of study regarding health services to the benefit of the hospital.
The H & L Hecht Medical Research Fellowship was established to promote or assist research at the RMH by a medical graduate who was an Australian citizen who, when applying was working outside Australia.
The Cleveland Fellowship was established in 1946 as a collaboration between the RMH and the University Hospitals of Cleveland. It was created as a way for the Cleveland Hospitals to thank the RMH for use of the RMH buildings during the Second World War. The Fourth General Hospital, United States Army, which occupied the RMH buildings in Parkville from 1942-44, was staffed almost entirely by members of the University Hospitals of Cleveland. The Fellowship was a reciprocal arrangement between the two hospitals and consisted of a medical officer from each hospital undertaking an exchange for one year. The Fellowship continued until 1995 when it was replaced by the Cleveland Young Investigators Award.
Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Archives.
