This series comprises annual reports of the Medical Superintendent of the Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital (VA 1231). The Medical Superintendent was the senior medical position at the hospital.

These reports include information relating to teaching activities, bed usage, length of stay, and the activities of the Laboratory and Epidemiological Research Unit.

Additionally, the reports record information concerning patient admissions, discharges, and deaths.

Also included are data on epidemics and disease outbreaks such as respiratory virus, bronchitis, meningitis, infective hepatitis, encephalitis, rubella, smallpox, whooping cough, pneumonia, polio, measles, mumps, glandular fever, gastroenteritis, rabies, and varicella.

These are the only extant Medical Superintendent’s reports from the hospital.
