This series comprises volumes recording outgoing correspondence from the Mt Beauty office of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria I (VA 1002) between 1946 and 1988.Prior to being transferred to PROV, these records were held in the custody of AGL Energy (a commercial successor to State Electricity Commission of Victoria I.
How to use the records
A card index (VPRS 19608) exists that is used to locate the letters. The index is arranged alphabetically and letters are categorized as either “Personal” (i.e. recorded under an individual’s name) or “Departmental (referring to departments within the SECV or external organisations).Recordkeeping system
The volumes are arranged chronologically. Within the volumes, each letter is assigned a single correspondence number (e.g. 30 or 1558), which restarts on a yearly basis. However, the numbering often does not restart at 1; for example, the letters contained in the December 1949 volume will be numbered 13857 through 15016, and the numbering restarts in January 1950’s volume at 34, indicating that not all correspondence was included in these volumes.Additionally, a seven-digit numeric control symbol is referred to in the records listing (e.g. 9741150), which refers to a database maintained by AGL Energy
