What do I need to know?

The regional city of town where the case was heard, and the approximate year.

Next Steps

What are in these records?

For cases heard at some regional courts:

  • insolvent's statement
  • proof of debts submitted by creditors
  • statement of assets and receipts
  • statement of disbursements and unrealised estate
  • order of appointment for certificate of discharge

For cases heard at most regional courts, a summary entry exists only, listing the name of the debtor, date/s of the case and its outcome.

Material in the Public Record Office Victoria archival collection contains words and descriptions that reflect attitudes and government policies at different times which may be insensitive and upsetting

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples should be aware the collection and website may contain images, voices and names of deceased persons.
